Nukeproof launch prototype dirt jump frame

Less than a month after the release of our Rook slopestyle bike we’re excited to bring you news of our prototype dirt jump frame.

An ongoing development project with newly signed Nukeproof rider Jack Fogelquist, the frame uses custom triple-butted steel tubing with a 44mm headtube, gold anodised alloy chain tension adjusters, an integrated gold alloy seat clamp and removable cable guides.

The frame, available in regular and long, is designed around a 100mm travel fork and uses geometry based on Jack’s personal setup. Priced at around the $600.00 mark we’ll be unveiling the full production model at this year’s Eurobike show.

Apollo Shadow Electric Deal

Monday, May 14th, 2012

We are slowly becoming experts on the best bicycles to convert to electric power and we’ve opted to set up for a special sale the APOLLO SHADOW (full specs here). It’s a really good Australian bicycle that came out for a while with a Nexus 7-speed internal hub gear. It really keeps the bicycle very simple with no derailleur and is extremely robust. The conversion kit went together great, we tried both with the rack battey and the Panasonic tube battery and the tube was obviously the best in terms of handling and light weight. We have just a few in stock . Usually, this electric bicycle would retail for $1870 but it will be on special for a couple of months for $1450. The only remaining sizes available from APOLLO with the internal gear have a large frame size, it suits riders from about 170cm to 188cm. The range with light pedalling will be about 30-40km and it’s speed is around 28km/h.

Please come into our Cottesloe Cycles store if you’d like to take one for a test ride. We’re sure you’ll be pretty impressed.

Nukeproof launch prototype Rook slopestyle frame

Fresh from its debut at last week’s Sea Otter Classic, we’re pleased to bring you more information on the revolutionary prototype Rook slopestyle frame, a development project between Nukeproof and the company’s newly signed slopestyle rider Jack Fogelquist.

The Rook features an integrated hydraulic gyro head tube which allows for a low stack height of just 10mm – including headset cup – which is not possible on conventional frames. This innovative new head tube feature is set to be a game changer for this type of bike, and the platform will be utilised by Fogelquist throughout the remainder of the 2012 season.

Other features of the Rook include a low, mildly progressive leverage rate designed to give a stiff platform for dirt jumping or slopestyle when used with 150+ PSI. Additionally, due to the low leverage rate, the feel of the ride is highly tunable by altering the compression damping of the shock. Switching the shock to its minimum compression position and running below 150PSI provides a supple, active suspension feel for freeride or trail use.

The geometry of the Rook is optimised for a 110mm travel fork giving a 13” BB height and 69 degree head angle. Running the frame with a 160mm fork raises the BB to 13.75” and slackens the head angle to a trail taming 66 degrees.  Chainstays are kept short for pumping tight bowls and manualling.

Pictured below we have the Rook in long-travel mode with a 160mm X-Fusion Vengeance 2013 fork, X-Fusion O2 RCX rear shock, Trickstuff Trixer hydraulic gyro, Truvativ Descendant cranks, SRAM X0 drivetrain, SRAM RC2 TT shifter and a Nukeproof wheelset sporting a prototype 6-speed ‘short cassette’ hub with 12mm bolt-through axle and wider flange spacing. Finishing kit is also from Nukeproof’s tried and tested component range.

Still in its prototype phase, no price details are available yet on the Rook – which will only be available as a frame-only model – and we’ll be working closely with Jack during the rest of the season to tweak and tune the frame, ready for expected release at Eurobike 2012.
