2012 KING KAHUNA
New for 2012, Kona’s first 29er carbon fiber hardtail takes everything we’ve learned in seven years of designing and building trail-inspired, race-winning 29er mountain bikes. Using a proprietary carbon fiber weave that’s designed to be both tough and quick, the mastered geometry of the King Kahuna features short chainstays, a low bottom bracket, a stiff 142×12 rear axle, and a spec package that’s all race, all speed, all King.

Spec Highlights:
• RockShox Reba RL 29er Tapered w/ 15mm thru-axle
• Avid Elixir 5 brakes
• Easton XC 29er wheelset
• SRAM X9 10-speed drivetrain

2012 Sneak Peak – The New All-Mountain Satori

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Born from the ethereal minds of Kona’s product group, the new 2012 Satori is a 130mm travel, aggressively oriented, all-mountain 29-inch wheel mountain bike designed to blaze through technical, rough terrain while still excelling at being light, nimble and quick of climb. We chose the name wisely. In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to a flash of sudden awareness, or individual enlightenment, and is considered a “first step” or embarkation toward nirvana. On a more specific (and somewhat weirder) tangent, satori has been described as being similar to awakening one day with an additional pair of arms. Bonus! In the case of Kona’s all-new 2012 Satori, we’ve substituted those new arms with a pair of 29-inch wheels. We think you’ll like them.

Inspired by a solid 8-year history manufacturing 29er bikes, Kona’s product group set out to create a nimble bike that provides plush suspension in a simple, light, stiff and aesthetically pleasing package. The bike features all the benefits of Kona’s long-standing commitment to 4-Bar suspension, the most notable of which being shock tune-ability. But instead of using a Walking Beam linkage configuration, the Satori uses a Swing Link design that allows increased standover for a more aggressively oriented 29er bike. Another key feature of the bike are its short chainstays, one of the main design elements contributing to its quickness and agility when it comes to more technical terrain.

2012 Kona Entourage sneak peak

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Introducing the all-new downhill/bike park/big-mountain-specific, down-addicted destroyer: the Entourage. In essence, it’s a smaller-travel (170mm) Operator redesigned into a tighter package, with radically shorter stays for quick turns and great maneuverability in the air, and a low BB and slack HA for stability. Built with performance durability and worlds of fun and speed in mind, hit everything you would on the big bike, but fall in love with the Entourage’s more nimble nature. When it comes to going down, for Kona Team Gravity Rider Graham Aggasiz, this is the quiver killer.

Spec Highlights:
• Custom 170mm RockShox Domain R CL fork
• Avid Code R brakes
• SRAM X-7 rear derailleur
• Fox Van R rear shock

The Operator
Last year we launched our new Operator platform with one purpose: ride the bejesus out of the world’s downhill tracks all week, race the hell out of them on Sunday, then do it every weekend forever. It starts with a wholly rejuvenated version of our famed Walking Beam 4-Bar suspension system. The design features incredibly plush and durable oversized axle pivots and bearings, combined with low standover and a modern, balanced riding position. We’ve taken everything we’ve learned from our World-Championship-winning Stab and created a bike that speeds into a new era of downhill riding. It’s easy to maintain, with a supple and deep rear suspension feel designed for The Long Sweet Ride, so it’s no surprise Dirt Magazine called it “Bang on!” To make it even better, we added new rear shock mount options and shortened the rear chainstays.
